Is fun in the foreign language classroom more than just enjoyment? My experience as a student teacher leads me to believe that the topic of fun in the classroom deserves more consideration, specifically fun and L2 (second language) acquisition motivation.
There is substantial research on the motivational processes of language learners, but as of yet, fun has been largely discounted as a positive motivating factor, even though several parallels can be drawn between fun and game situations in the classroom and current models outlining the motivation of L2 students. This qualitative study analyzes student and teacher interviews, observation notes and survey responses in order to form a clearer idea on how students experience fun and motivation in the L2 classroom, and the connection between these two forces.
