This topic will examine how Spanish writer Miguel de Unamuno skillfully uses the symbolism of the characters’ names in his play “ La Casa de Bernarda Alba” to reveal their true identities and to determine the role that each individual plays. The behavior of four characters is analyzed in relation to the meaning of their names, as well as what altered significance there is when a character is renamed. Alternate meanings and resultant interpretations are briefly explored. The topic will be presented in Spanish.
