This work consists of a series of sculptures which I created from discarded materials. The majority of my materials were selected from rusty iron scrap piles and industrial metal waste at a local metal salvage yard. I am moved to use such materials because I find them visually appealing. By putting “junk” in a new perspective, I am hoping to challenge accepted concepts of beauty and where it can be found.
As this work progressed, it began to express the ambivalent feelings I am experiencing about graduating in May. It enabled me to reflect on these feelings nonverbally, which provided me with a new perspective with which to consider them.
