From the perspective of one who recently completed her student teaching experience, the following analysis seeks to provide insight on incidents observed in a second grade classroom. Originally inspired by observations of learned helplessness in her students, she sought to pinpoint how she contributed to the development of learned helplessness and studied how her responses and lack of responses perpetuated the issue of learned helplessness. The insight gained through this analysis of data and study of relevant literature will hopefully leave teachers more informed when facing cases of learned helplessness as well as more proactive in preventing students from exhibiting learned helplessness.
