String theory offers a solution to the long sought after grand theory of everything in physics. Essentially what it says is that all particles which we now know of and those which have not yet been observed are all made up of tiny vibrating strings. When comparing with a normal string which has many different modes, each particle is a distinct mode of vibration of that fundamental string. In this presentation I will be discussing the fundamentals and the details required to understand and appreciate string theory. I will also be looking at the two kinds of strings, open and closed, and trying to study them in a comprehensive way.
