Virtual CPU: Recipe for a computer – The presenter has written a Java program that models the workings of a Central Processing Unit – the brain of the computer. Intel Motorola use these types of programs to simulate their chips while still in the design stage. The CPU handles transfer of data, mathematical and logical operations. In this presentation, the presenter will share some of the knowledge gained from creating this type of program including details of its function and parts. We will also cover the difficulties faced in its design and testing. No prior understanding of computer science will be necessary. Please expect group participation. Credit and thanks to Benjamin Merrill (’04) for his work in the early parts of the project.
