abstract: The Cornell campus mapping project was my most resent research project. The purpose of this project was 1) to create a 2-dimensional map of the Cornell College campus, 2) to create a 3-dimensional map of the campus, and 3) to create a multi-layered 2-D and possibly 3-dimensional historical map of the Cornell College campus. ArcView GIS, a Geographic Information System created by ESRI (Environmental Systems Research Institute), was used to create the initial 2-D map. An extension to ArcView, called ArcView 3-D Analyst, was used to create the 3-D maps of the campus. The 2-D maps will be used by the Buildings and Grounds department to determine the location of underground cabling and piping prior to restorations and improvements on the campus. The 2-D map will be used by the Campus Communications team as an addition to the Virtual Tour of Cornell located on their Internet home page. The 3-D maps may also be used in the Virtual Tour to provide prospective students with a glimpse of the campus prior to visits.
