A few sentences: The Catholic Church has recognized that along with modernization comes the promotion of two democratic ideas: the separation of Church and State and the endorsement of secularization. This separation of Church and State has been made clear in most democatic states; however, the Costa Rican government has allowed the Church to remain a key figure within society by continued recognition of Roman Catholicism as the official religion of the country as well as by looking for support from the church body and clergy.
Goals: I want to see how the church’s role in the democratic state is played out. I am also interested in seeing how the church remains true to its mission and the doctrine (instituted in Rome) while trying to be influential and powerful within the government.
